Hi, I’m Dr. Shaun Dadjoo — your local orthodontist serving Porter Ranch and the Northwest San Fernando Valley. I’m board-certified, a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and genuinely passionate about how orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics can change a person’s life. I’ve seen it happen to my patients — and I lived it myself.
A Passion Born in Childhood
My own orthodontic journey started long before dental school. As a kid, I wore an expander, a Herbst appliance, and upper and lower braces. My orthodontist made such an impression on me that at 12 years old, I decided I wanted to do what he did. That decision never wavered.
I was recruited on an academic scholarship to The Kinkaid School, where that early interest in orthodontics turned into something more serious: during high school summers, I volunteered as a research aide at the University of Texas Houston Dental Branch, helping dental students and faculty run their research studies. Those summers gave me an early, hands-on appreciation for evidence-based dentistry — something that still shapes how I treat patients today.
Building a Scientific Foundation
I earned my Bachelor of Science with honors in Biomedical Sciences, with a minor in Business Administration, from Texas A&M University, making the Dean’s List multiple semesters while continuing my research work at the Houston Dental Branch.
After my undergraduate degree, I was awarded a post-baccalaureate research fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, where I spent a year working alongside surgeons in the Pediatric Surgery and Maternal-Fetal Medicine departments — including research involving critically ill newborns in the NICU.
That December, I was accepted to both a medical school and a dental school. Since my goal had always been orthodontics, I chose dental school, enrolling at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.
Excelling in Dental School
At WesternU, I maintained a 4.0 GPA and received the college’s highest honors, including the Henson Outstanding Dental Student Award and the Perfecto Torres Memorial Scholarship. As a multi-year research fellow, I designed and conducted a first-of-its-kind randomized clinical trial on teeth bleaching during Invisalign treatment, and won a national award from the American Dental Education Association for my research on formative feedback. I treated my first Invisalign case back in 2018.
I also led four student organizations as president — the orthodontic, pediatric dentistry, craniofacial, and dental sleep medicine study clubs — and worked at the Pumerantz Library, where I spent countless nights reading through the school’s entire collection of orthodontic textbooks, years before I’d even applied to residency.
World-Class Training at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health
I was recruited to the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester — ranked the #1 orthodontic program in the world — to specialize in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. There, I trained under Dr. P. Emile Rossouw (now President of the American Board of Orthodontics) and Dr. Dimitrios Michelogiannakis, two of the field’s leading minds.
While completing my residency, I simultaneously earned a Master’s degree. My thesis, funded by an NIH grant, studied the effect of mitochondrial dysfunction on craniofacial growth and development. My orthodontic senior thesis, published in the Journal of Cranio, examined alternative, non-surgical therapies for temporomandibular disorder (TMD) — research that directly informs how I help my adult TMJ patients today.
During residency, I was nominated by Dr. Rossouw for the JCO Resident of the Year award, completed an Aligner Intensive Fellowship, and learned to place MARPEs and TADs and place self-ligating braces. I also had the rare opportunity to follow a patient’s care from diagnosis all the way through corrective jaw surgery — attending the surgery itself. A case I planned and treated later won 1st prize from the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics (2024) and was published in the AJO-DO Clinical Companion, covering autotransplantation, 3D printing and imaging, and TAD-based mechanics.
Bringing Advanced Orthodontic Care to Porter Ranch
After Eastman, I moved to California and began practicing Invisalign-focused orthodontics at our satellite office in Culver City, treating many young patients with Class III malocclusions using expanders, reverse-pull facemasks, and Frankel appliances.
In 2024, I took over the Porter Ranch practice from Dr. Jeffrey Liu, who had continued the legacy of Dr. Arthur Tsui, the office’s founder in the 1970s. We still maintain original patient charts, x-rays, and equipment from that history — a continuity of care I take seriously. Since taking over, I’ve introduced diode soft-tissue lasers for tooth impactions and cosmetic gingivectomies, brought in self-ligating Damon braces, and applied my own published research on whitening during clear aligner treatment.
Today, I’m proud that our office is consistently rated among the highest in Porter Ranch — and we treat kids, teens, and adults across the full range of orthodontics, dentofacial orthopedics, airway orthodontics, surgical orthodontics, dental sleep medicine, and cosmetic dentistry.
