Northridge Braces Northridge Orthodontist Dr. Dadjoo

Why Braces Color Matter

Getting braces isn’t just about straightening teeth — it’s also about expressing your personality. Every
adjustment gives you a chance to switch up your look, celebrate special events, and boost your
confidence. The right braces color can make your teeth look whiter, brighten your smile, and even help you feel more stylish day-to-day.

What Are the Best Braces Colors in 2025?

In 2025, one color stands above the rest: light blue. It’s a dreamy, sky-like shade that reminds you of
possibility and freshness — and it has the added bonus of making teeth look brighter and whiter.
Another standout is Dodger blue paired with light blue. Not only is it a fun, bold look, but it’s also a
perfect way to rep your LA Dodgers with your braces.
Other trending braces colors this year include:
Light pink (fresh and playful)
Black (sleek and bold)
Red (confident and eye-catching)
Dark purple (stylish and unique)

How to Choose the Right Braces Color

Picking a braces color is a personal decision — but here are a few things to think about:

Your mood and style: Most importantly, pick the color that makes you feel happiest and most confident.

Upcoming holidays or events: Red and green for Christmas, orange and black for Halloween, or pink and red for Valentine’s Day.

Your clothing palette: Do you wear lots of neutrals? A pop of bright blue or purple can stand out. Prefer bold clothes? A subtle silver or clear band will keep things balanced.

Most Popular Braces Colors for Teens and Adults

Here are the shades patients are asking for most in 2025:

  • Light blue
  • Light pink
  • Dodger blue
  • Black
  • Red
  • Dark purple

These colors are timeless favorites because they’re versatile, fun, and look great in photos.

Do Braces Colors Make Teeth Look Whiter?

Yes — the right braces color can make your teeth appear whiter.
Colors that make teeth look whiter: Light blue, navy, silver, dark purple.
Colors that may make teeth look yellow: White, yellow, neon shades, or clear (since they can stain).

Pro tip: Darker shades create contrast against teeth, helping them look brighter.

Braces Colors FAQ

How often can I change braces colors?
Usually every adjustment, which is every 4–8 weeks.

Do braces colors cost extra?
Nope — changing colors is included with your orthodontic treatment.

Can I choose different colors for top and bottom braces?
Yes! Many patients pick holiday colors, school colors, or even alternate shades to make it fun.

What braces color lasts the longest without fading?
Darker shades like navy, black, and dark purple.
What braces colors should I avoid if I don’t want my teeth to look yellow?
Avoid white, yellow, clear, or neon shades. These colors tend to stain quickly or reflect discoloration, making teeth appear less bright.

Which braces colors are best for professional adults who want a subtle look?
Go with silver, gray, navy blue, or clear bands. These shades are discreet, blend with natural teeth, and look polished for professional environments.

What are fun braces color ideas for holidays, school spirit, or sports teams?

  • Christmas: red + green
  • Halloween: orange + black
  • Valentine’s Day: red + pink
  • Fourth of July: red + white + blue
  • School spirit: match your school’s colors
  • Sports teams: Dodger blue + white, Lakers purple + gold, etc.

How often can you change braces colors, and how long do they last?
Braces colors are changed at every adjustment (about every 4–8 weeks). The bands last until your next visit, though lighter shades may show wear sooner.

Can I get glow-in-the-dark or unique braces color options?
Yes! Some orthodontists offer glow-in-the-dark, glitter, or specialty shades. They’re less common but fun for special occasions.

Light vs. dark braces colors: which makes teeth look straighter?
Dark braces colors create more contrast, which can make teeth appear whiter and straighter. Lighter colors blend in more but may highlight unevenness.

Clear vs. colored braces bands: which is better for photos?
Clear is subtle in person but may reflect light in photos, making them more noticeable. Darker colored bands (navy, purple, black) often photograph cleaner.

Navy blue vs. black braces: which one stains less?
Both resist staining, but navy blue is safer. Black can sometimes create the illusion of food stuck in teeth, while navy maintains contrast without that effect.

Braces colors for boys vs. girls — is there still a difference?
Not really. While pinks and purples were once “girl” favorites and blues “boy” favorites, today braces colors are all about self-expression. Many patients mix colors regardless of gender.

What’s the prettiest braces color for prom pictures?
Light blue, navy, or silver are safe and stylish choices — they brighten teeth and pair well with formal outfits.

If I want my smile to pop, what braces colors should I pick?
Choose bright red, bold purple, or royal blue. These create strong contrast and make your smile stand out in photos.

Do dark green braces make your teeth look bad?
Sometimes — dark green can look like food stuck in your teeth under certain lighting. Stick to navy or teal if you want a green-inspired shade.

What’s the safest braces color for someone who doesn’t want to regret it?
Light blue or silver. Both are universally flattering, low-maintenance, and brighten teeth.

Do braces colors really change how people see your smile?
Yes. Colors can frame your smile, highlight your teeth, and influence first impressions. Bright, happy colors signal playfulness; dark, subtle shades suggest maturity.

How can braces colors help with confidence during treatment?
Picking colors you love transforms braces into an accessory. Patients who enjoy their color choices often smile more freely, boosting confidence during treatment.

Are there cultural or personal style trends in braces colors?
Yes. Minimalist trends favor silver, gray, or clear. Bold style movements lean toward neon, bright blues, or color combos. Sports and school spirit often influence patient choices.

Do braces colors stain easily?
Lighter shades (white, yellow, neon, clear) stain faster. Dark colors resist staining longer.

What colors last longest without fading?
Navy blue, dark purple, and black tend to hold their color best.

Can you request different colors for top and bottom braces?
Yes — you can mix and match for holidays, sports teams, or just for fun.

How much does it cost to change braces colors?
Usually nothing extra — it’s included in your orthodontic adjustments.

Do some types of braces not require colors?
Yes, some types of braces have an internal locking mechanism or gate that holds the wire. These types of braces are called self ligagting and common brands include American Orthodontics Empower Series and Ormco’s Damon braces. Self ligagting braces self-hold the wire and do not require the color to ligate – or hold – the wire into the bracket. Thus there is less friction and more of a sliding mechanism for the wire. For certain types of cases, like severe crowding or space closure, these braces propose a biomechanical advantage.

Board Certified Insights From Dr. Dadjoo

Colors are fun way to express yourself- my personal favorites are the light blue, light purple, and Dodger Blue. If possible, certain cases treat faster and better with self ligating braces and these don’t require colors. I know, its sad, but in some ways it can be better. The color ties attract a lot of food particles and debris so if you can go self ligating and theres a clear advantage, go with it! Certain cases treat out better with the color ties. All in all, 2025 has been a year where a lot of patients have chose colored braces over clear aligners like Invisalign. The “Brace Face Drip” trend is real! We have seen a number of young adults coming in and specifically asking for braces, so if thats you, please do reach out to us and schedule an appointment in Porter Ranch.
